Abstract

A compact yet comprehensive source of information, this book focuses on the technicalities of plastic surgery; providing the definitive reference tool for academics and surgeons alike. Written by a plastic surgeon for plastic surgeons, this text covers a vast array of key topics in a succinct yet thorough manner. The book holds a strong focus on definitions and classifications, thus addressing the specifics of plastic surgery education. It provides reference throughout for recognized classifications, a key topic addressed in the training stage of plastic surgery, whilst helpfully illustrating each step with clear and concise diagrams to aid the learning process. The unique format of the text means it can be used optimally in busy working environments, as unlike its competitors, this book is a quick reference guide covering a broad area. Early chapters focus primarily on the basics of plastic surgery, while the main body of the work contains vital information on congenital and acquired abnormalities of the body. The final chapter then concentrates on cosmetic surgery, while always offering clear step-by-step overviews of the topic. Offering a wealth of information that overlaps a number of different surgical fields, this text will appeal to experts in a range of specialties including plastic and hand surgery, orthopaedics, dermatology, oncology, paediatrics and urology. As such, the book is an indispensable guide for all practicing and training plastic surgeons, as well as specialists elsewhere looking for a comprehensive guide to plastic & hand surgery. "This superb book will prove to be an essential revision aid for plastic surgery examinations and teaching ward rounds. The author helpfully combines all the major classifications with her own useful aide memoires". Mr. Darren Chester MPhil FRCS(Plast.), Consultant Plastic Surgeon. Former Ian McGregor Medal Winner.

Abstract

The demand for cosmetic procedures by male patients has increased in recent years. With this trend has come the realization that male aesthetic needs are different from female aesthetic needs. This book is the first hands-on guide dedicated exclusively to the aesthetic treatment of the male patient, and provides cosmetic surgeons with important information on how to obtain a natural male look for such patients. It explains facial aesthetics and the aging process in men, as well as the current aesthetic medicine techniques available. It also offers valuable strategies for avoiding and treating undesired results. Written by internationally known experts in the field, this unique guide enables cosmetic surgeons to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes, as well as increased satisfaction in male patients.

Abstract

"There is hardly a reason to circumcise a little boy for medical reasons because those medical reasons don’t exist," said Dr. Michael Wilks, Head of Ethics at the British Medical Association, who admitted that doctors have circumcised boys for "no good reason." In the United States, parts of Africa, the Middle East, and in the Muslim world, 13.3 million infant boys and 2 million girls have part or all of their external sex organs cut off for reasons that defy logic and violate basic human rights. Doctors, parents, and politicians have been misled into thinking that circumcision is beneficial, necessary, and harmless. In Circumcision and human rights, internationally respected experts in the fields of medicine, science, politics, law, ethics, sociology, anthropology, history, and religion present the latest research on this tragedy, as a part of the worldwide campaign to end sexual mutilation. They outline steps for eradicating this abusive practice to enable males and females the dignity of living out their lives with all the body parts with which they were born.
